So, you’ve finished editing your photo or design in Photoshop 2025. Now it’s time to save or share it—but wait, how do you export it properly?

In this quick guide, we’ll go over common ways to export images in Photoshop 2025 so you get the best quality for web, print, or social media.

Export As (Most Common Method)

This is one of the easiest and most flexible ways to export.

Steps:

  1. Go to the top menu and click File > Export > Export As

  2. A new window will open

  3. Choose your file format (JPG, PNG, WebP, etc.)

  4. Set your image size, resolution, and quality

  5. Click Export and choose where to save the file

Best For:

  • Web images

  • Thumbnails

  • Optimized graphics

Save a Copy (To Keep Your PSD Safe)

This lets you save a flat image version without messing up your working PSD file.

Steps:

  1. Go to File > Save a Copy

  2. Pick a format (JPG, PNG, TIFF, PDF, etc.)

  3. Rename if needed and click Save

Best For:

  • Saving different versions (high-res, low-res)

  • Keeping your original editable file untouched

Quick Export as PNG or JPG

Photoshop 2025 still offers a quick way to export in one click.

Set It Up (if you haven’t):

  1. Go to Edit > Preferences > Export

  2. Choose your default format (e.g. PNG or JPG)

  3. Set image size and quality

Then Use It:

  • Go to File > Export > Quick Export as PNG (or JPG)

  • The file saves instantly to your chosen location

Best For:

  • Speed

  • Social media posts

  • Repetitive tasks

Export for Print (High-Quality Settings)

If you're sending an image to a printer, you need high resolution.

Tips:

  • Use TIFF or PDF for the best quality

  • Make sure resolution is at least 300 DPI

  • Convert to CMYK color mode (Image > Mode > CMYK) if the printer requires it

Best For:

  • Posters

  • Flyers

  • Photo books

Export with Generative Layers (New Feature)

Photoshop 2025 now supports exporting images with AI-generated layers, but you have to flatten them first.

Steps:

  1. Right-click AI-generated layers and select Rasterize

  2. Then use Export As or Save a Copy

⚠️ Tip: If you skip rasterizing, the image may look different when exported.

Tips

  • Always check the file size and image dimensions before exporting

  • Use JPG for small file sizes, PNG for transparency, and TIFF/PDF for print

  • Double-check if your export looks the same as your original—sometimes colors or sharpness may shift depending on the settings
